Category: Water chemistry

Water chemistry can seem extremely difficult for a beginner. Plus not everyone likes chemistry. However, learning the basics of water chemistry will help you understand how your aquarium works and our experts can explain complicated issues in an reader-friendly way. You will learn how biological filtration works in an aquarium and what nitrification, denitrification and maturation of the aquarium are about. How to prepare water for different types of aquariums? Why are water changes so important? You will learn about the basic issues of water parameters, such as: pH of the water and how to regulate it, carbonate and non-carbonate hardness, conductivity and alkalinity and how they can be regulated in an aquarium.

We will also discuss other interesting issues related to aquarium water chemistry. You will learn what biological decalcification of water is and how it affects your tank. Experts will also explain the importance of each element in its proper functioning. Particularly interesting element is iron (Fe) and its availability in the aquarium.
